This silk scarf is a natural beauty that gives an elevated yet rustic look.  Made from two different species of silk, its texture and luster will win your heart.

Its name, "marina," means "true or honest" in Madagascar, and its design comes from a  culturally traditional pattern.

It contains 100% Madagascar silk and is completely hand-crafted. The silk yarn is hand-spun, hand-dyed, and hand-woven on a floor loom. The women of the Lovasoa Cooperative craft each piece in their small village in the central highlands of Madagascar.

This scarf is made from wild Borocera silk which is a species of silkworm only found in Madagascar, as well as cultivated mulberry silk.

Only natural dye is used in this scarf -

  • The colored silk yarn is Borocera wild silk dyed with "dingadingana" leaves from the endemic plant Psiadia altissima. Eucalyptus leaves, salt, and ash are used to "fix" the natural dye, thus the color will not run or fade.
  • The white silk yarn is natural undyed mulberry silk.
  • The scarf measures 12.5” x 70”.

This beautiful piece will last a lifetime.

Your purchase directly helps a weaver in this cooperative support her family.  It also preserves the cultural tradition of silk weaving in Madagascar.

Each piece comes with a lovely tag that tells the story of the silk and has washing instructions.

Washing instructions: Hand-wash with any kind of soap.  Lay flat to dry. Iron while still slightly damp to give your scarf a lovely sheen. Alternatively, you can steam iron it on a low-ish heat setting to refresh it from time to time without washing.  Dry cleaning is also fine.
