Coping with COVID: we need your help!

It is with a heavy heart that we report that, despite their best efforts, all but one member of our Malagasy team has fallen ill with COVID-19. In response to this outbreak and the hardships it has inflicted on our Ta’na’na Silk community, we have started a fundraiser to establish emergency health funds for the team. We recognize that this is a difficult time for all, and any amount you are able to contribute to our COVID relief fund will make a direct impact on our team members who are struggling with this disease and their families. FAQ: Why Madagascar?

Why do we focus our efforts on Madagascar? Even though millions of dollars of conservation aid has been directed to Madagascar, its ecosystems continue to be overexploited. We saw a need for a new approach to conservation that also addressed the economic development and food security of the Malagasy people, and quickly worked to fill it. We introduced small-scale agricultural production of native silkworms and silk, which allowed participating farmers to more than double their average yearly incomes. The products of that project are what make up our Ta’na’na Silk inventory! 100% of profits are returned to our Malagasy team, continuing to work towards conservation and poverty alleviation in Northeastern Madagascar.
