6 Months of Ta’na’na Silk

Six months ago, we launched our online market! The pandemic made it impossible for us to travel to trade shows around the US, which has usually been our main source of business. We missed the in-person connections but we have made the most of the push to expand our enterprise to the world of online marketing.

We are lucky to have had the help of several wonderful volunteers. From beautiful photography and marketing advice to creative product design and much more, our volunteers have helped make Ta’na’na Silk successful. Our journey could not have happened without them, so to our dedicated volunteers: THANK YOU!

Over the last six months, we have sold almost $6,000 worth of Wild Silk and Raffia products. That may not seem like a lot, but every one of those dollars goes to our team in Madagascar. In a place where the annual average income is about $140, that makes a huge difference! And it’s only been six months!

An Encounter with COVID-19

From the very beginning, we took COVID-19 seriously. Our team was careful to wear masks, distance appropriately, and wash hands frequently. Unfortunately, despite their best efforts, the pandemic did reach our Malagasy team eventually. In early November, the team experienced a COVID-19 outbreak, with many team members falling ill. 

In response to this crisis, we quickly established an emergency health fund to streamline financial support for the team. Thanks to your generosity, we soon raised over $6,000 to go directly to our team members struggling with COVID. We couldn’t have done it without you! It is with profound gratitude that we report that the team has made a successful recovery. 

Looking Forward

As we head into the New Year, we have much to look forward to. We will continue expanding our online store and loyal customer base. Our team is hard at work developing and crafting beautiful products just for you. We continue to change the lives of Malagasy families and the environment that surrounds them, cultivating more native habitat every year. Like everyone, we are hopeful for a future that is pandemic-free and will allow us to reconnect with each other in person. As always, we are so grateful to you!
