The Non-Woven Cocoon Silk Paper from Madagascar are available in 4 different types of cocoons: Ceranchia appolina, Antherina suraka, Argema mittrei and Borocera cajani. Find out more about each variety of Cocoon Silk. Ceranchia Papers are available in both dense and open versions. The dense paper is made from the dense inner cocoon and is opaque. The open paper is made from the open outer cocoon and is translucent.
Each paper contains more than 20 cocoons. Of course, the number varies depending on the species and the size of each cocoon. The cocoons are stitched together with clear filament that disappears in the texture. Each Paper is unique and handmade.
These sheets of Non-Woven Cocoon Silk are beautiful just as they are. Use them as a mat to protect a surface or to add texture and interest to a table. Stitch them together or stitch on them. Make them part of your collage or art project. Use fabric glue to paste them together.
Each variety is available in 9 colors: Natural (no dye), Egyptian Red, Black, Purple, Gray and Scarlet. The Paper is also available in: Scarlet with Shibori pattern, Navy Blue with Shibori pattern and Turquoise with Shibori pattern. The Shibori pattern gives the Paper a two-tone look since the natural color of the cocoons shows through in the pattern.
The Papers are sustainably sourced and made in Madagascar by SEPALIM, a poverty alleviation NGO in north eastern Madagascar that invests in local leadership, community ownership and links these partners to global markets.
Care: Hand-wash only, warm or cold water. Iron with steam iron on low-heat setting and place a pressing guard sheet over the silk to protect it while you iron.
