This delightful 60"x60" mosaic was handmade in northeastern Madagascar using wild-gathered and sustainable farmed wild silk cocoons. The intricate details of this piece come together to form a beautiful celebration of the little things that make up the incredible Malagasy ecosystem: if you look closely, you will notice representations of forest and marine flora and fauna. This one-of-a-kind masterpieceis especially meaningful as it was made through the month-long collaboration of our SEPALIM artisan team before their annual leave. Every time you look at this panel, a new detail will catch your eye.*
This piece was made using handwoven Raffia and non-woven cocoon silk of the Ceranchia Open, Ceranchia Dense, Bombyx, and Suraka varieties. The wild-gathered cocoons are collected using a sustainable no-kill process that allows the silkworms to complete their natural life cycle.
The non-woven textile is made by stitching the cocoons together using a clear filament that disappears in the texture of the panel. Some of the cocoons are left natural in color and some are dyed in vibrant colors using eco-friendly dye. The dyes used are color-fast.
This panel was sustainably sourced and made in Madagascar by CPALI, a conservation and poverty alleviation NGO in northeastern Madagascar that invests in local leadership, community ownership and linking these partners to global markets. 100% of the profits from Ta’na’na Silk are returned to Madagascar.
Care: Hand-wash only, warm or cold water. Hang on line to dry. Iron with steam iron on low-heat setting and place a pressing guard sheet over the silk to protect it while you iron.
